We went out to dinner tonight at a local restaurant/micro brewery. The PTA of my daughter’s school was doing a fundraiser there, 15% of the check went to the PTA. Now, this is a place meant for adults. It’s a nice place. They have a kid’s menu, but Chuck E Cheese it is not. Of course, there were a ton of kids there. What we didn’t bargain on, was the group of parents that pushed a couple tables next to us together, put all their kids there 15-20 kids), and then the parents all sat at a completely different table! WTF?!?!
Long story short, my father-in-law got shot in the side of the head with a dart gun. Credit where credit is due, the kid’s dad saw it, dragged him over, and made the kid apologize. The dad also apologized a couple times, you could tell he felt genuinely bad. But seriously, supervise your children, and why the holy hell do you let a kid bring a damn dart gun into a restaurant?
Yes, I kept the dart.

This take is straight plasma.
Learn you some science if that isn’t clear enough.

Six kids showed up at the hotel Saturday evening. I stepped into the hall three times to ask them to be quiet. They were playing tag up and down the stairs and the elevator, both of which are right by my room.
I finally called down to the front desk. The kids had migrated down to the lobby and were causing a ruckus down there. The poor clerk told me she had already spoken to the parents twice.
I had to put it ear buds to drown out the noise. The hotel staff were nice enough to comp me the room for the night. I was sorely tempted to go stomping down the hall when I left for the airport at 6:00 the next morning.

You're a better man than I for not. Props to the staff for comping your room though.

I took my dog on a work trip once and was told in no uncertain terms that if any other guests complained about her barking, I was financially responsible for their rooms . Fair enough - but parents should bear the same burden.

That’s a hell of an incentive to keep your dog quiet.

I’d strangle a bitch.
But seriously, my sister’s school runs a fundraiser at a local McDonald’s (you guys really want to encourage fast food? Seriously? Idiots) and as much I’d like to support her, FUCK THAT! Before she was a teacher and I happened to go by and get a soda and realized it was the PTA thingy night I’d turn right around. If I could even get a parking spot.

No, I’m complaining about parents not supervising their offspring in public.

We were in Santa Fe in a hotel this past weekend. I got on my kids when they raised their voice above normal talking tone even when we were in our room. My wife and I literally explained to them “don’t be the reason other people want to leave this hotel”. They certainly were not perfect, but they were far from playing tag in the halls.
I have traveled a LOT for work and I can’t stand loud neighbors (or thin walls). Nothing will get me to choose another brand quicker than card board walls or a noisy HVAC window unit.

I really appreciate your courtesy and how you are teaching your kids to behave. I’ve stayed in this hotel for at least six months over the past year . There have been very few nights where noise was a problem. Usually a quick conversation with the noise-makers takes care of it. This time, it didn’t.

What's really sad is that I'm positive that at least 50% of the people that liked it are teachers

I stayed in a Motel 6 with my wife awhile back and the dog next door in the adjoining room was sleeping on the floor at the place where the hollow-cored doors were and kept us up half the night. It was first of the month and all the assistance checks were in and folks were having a place to stay and the lady was probably homeless, but it was still annoying.

Sounds like they were having fun. Maybe they’d been pent up in a car all day long. Maybe their parents were inconsiderate rednecks. Being a middle school teacher helps me laugh things off, but what you describe sounds pretty annoying. Break out the Bose QC headphones!

I might have laughed it off it weren’t going on for hours and I wasn’t working on a cross-country flight plan for the next morning . Really, hotels should be treated like a whole building full of bedrooms filled with people sleeping.
I really like those headphones, but I’m not willing to spend the money on them. I’ve also learned that if they aren’t playing music, headphones that make it quiet amplify my tinnitus.

Are you a pilot?
The QCs I have are a very early generation, like QC3. I nurse them along. I bet you could find a pair on Ebay for under $100. I have a long MP3 of rain falling on a lake with a little bit of distant thunder in the background now and again. That’s what I put on when I want to concentrate and block out everything else.

I’m a student pilot. I should be finished in a couple of months.
I used to have an app which provided white noise, but the developer quit updating it. I’m also not fond of wearing headphones or earbuds for extended periods. Besides, hotels are expected to be quiet places in the evening. I’m not staying at the great wolf lodge for a reason.
